Visual Impairment Services

Grace's Visual Impairment Services are a one stop shop for all of your visual impairment needs. We understand that every individual is different and has different requirements, and we cater our services accordingly. Our team has more than 17 years of experience in delivering services to people with visual impairment. Our experience has been built across many sectors including local authority sensory teams, charities, NHS and many others. we offer both services for individuals, as well as services for companies and businesses, looking to acquire specific and relevant training in visual impairment.

At Grace, we understand that losing your vision can affect your confidence greatly especially when it comes to  tasks that involve navigating around places that are not always very accessible to people with a visual impairment. That is why we understand the importance of having a specially trained support worker/personal assistant who can help you gain back your confidence, and maintain your independence. We offer support workers for any occasion whether it be a trip to the shops, or a chaperone to an appointment.

Rehabilitation Services

We are proud to be the current provider of rehabilitation services in Bolton on behalf of Bolton Council. Every local authority has a statutory requirement to assess people who are registered or not registered but with a visual impairment need. Specialist skills are required to carry out this functional assessment for visual impairment. However, there is a national shortage of skilled people to carry out this task.  Grace Health and Social Care have the skills in house and can recruit on behalf of local authorities. Our rehabilitation services include:-

  • Full assessment for visual impairment needs

  • Establishment of functional needs and action planning

  • Daily living skills training

  • Orientation and mobility training

  • communications and digital skills training

  • Refresher training to individuals

  • Awareness training to individuals, family and organisations

Whether you are a local authority who need a rehab officer  to help you reduce your waiting list or an individual who needs some information about refresher courses or you are just fed up of being on the waiting list, then please get in touch with our team. No enquiry is too small for us. We are here to help.

Employment Support

Sadly, less than 40% of visually impaired people of a working age, are currently in employment. This is an unfortunate repercussion of not enough support for people with a visual impairment being available. However, what many fail to understand is that with the help of a support worker and the right technology in place, people with a diagnosis of visual impairment can remain in work and thrive. Through the Access to Work** programme, funded by the Department of Work and Pensions, we have been able to match support workers for those who need support in the work place, so if you do have a new or existing diagnosis of a visual impairment, and are looking to start working again or remain in work with a little support, then contact us today and let us assist you in the process.

*Access to work is a government funded scheme by the Department of Work and Pensions, which funds support workers for disabled individuals to help them remain in the workplace, we work in line with the Department of Work and Pensions in regards to support worker supply, if you think you or someone you know may be eligible and would like some more information, don't hesitate to give us a call and we will be happy to help.
